Le Moulin du Tiourre, Tiourre valley
Access to the Tiourre valley
Leave by car (10-minute drive) from Mas de la Fontenette (4-star holiday rental in the heart of the Ardèche gorges, with heated swimming pool, spa, sauna, exercise bike, table football and petanque pitch), then park at the foot of the big climb on the Ardèche gorges tourist route, just outside Châmes. The Tiourre valley is located on the edge of the Ardèche Gorges after Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, shortly after Châmes. The beauty of the Tiourre stream is one of the best-kept secrets of the Ardèche gorges. There’s a natural spring, turquoise pools, concretions forming a series of small dams, and a vertiginous 80m-high waterfall, the Cascade de Pissevieille, which only gushes out when there’s a lot of rain, hence its humorous name. A lovely walk through garrigue and pine forest.
The old Moulin du Tiourre
The Tiourre valley is a protected area and we ask you to take the greatest care to preserve it.
The old Tiourre mill is a ruin in the middle of a magnificent valley. The river Tiourre rises at the bottom of this valley. A superb place for many walks. Situated in the valley of the Tiourre, a tributary that flows into the Ardèche after the Pont d’Arc.
You can download a GPX map of the hike from the Visorando website. You can also download the description of the walk in PDF format from this site.
A very pleasant hike if you set off very early in the morning, but a tedious one in the middle of the day when it’s very hot.
A well-deserved rest at Mas de la Fontenette
On the way home, you can rush off to the Ardèche for a well-deserved swim just before returning to Mas de la Fontenette, a Gites de France 4-star gite. Enjoy the fantastic views of the Cévennes from the terrace of the infinity pool. You’ll love the wellness area (Jacuzzi, sauna, table football, petanque area, etc.) set in 2.5 hectares of wooded parkland.
