Historical architecture

The former site of a Gallo-Roman estate, between the limestone of the Rhône valley and the basalt of the Coiron.

The inhabitants of Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès are called Vincenois. Relatively well preserved, you’ll find many houses that are typical of traditional construction. Thick walls, with cellars, barns and stables on the ground floor. Wide volcanic stone staircases, terraces (often covered) and upstairs dwellings. The number of rows of canal tiles arranged in 2, 3 or 4 genoises reflects the owner’s wealth. Some houses still have their shutters made of rot-proof mulberry planks.

The church was rebuilt in 1687 and the fountain dates from 1851. It has a rich medieval past, as evidenced by the basalt and limestone houses covered in Roman tiles.
