The Sautadou waterfall at Saint Remèze
A waterfall of great natural beauty
The Sautadou waterfall is near Vallon pont d’Arc, between Saint Remèze and Gras, in the Ardèche. You’ll find it below the road, 500m before the hamlet of Helys. This small canyon offers an easy introduction to abseiling in a beautiful natural setting. The rock is covered in tufa, giving it a lovely ochre colour.
The Combe Rouvière stream only flows for a few days a year, after a long period of rain. The river rises at the foot of the Dent de Rez. There is a small pool of water downstream of the bridge where you can take a dip. This is followed, 10m further on, by another where jumping is still impossible. This is followed by a third waterfall, a pretty abseil down a narrow, twisting gully.
The Sautadou waterfall is a veritable natural gem in the heart of the region’s unspoilt countryside. This spectacular waterfall, nestling in Mediterranean greenery, is a sight to behold for visitors who venture here. Rising from the rocky heights, the waters of the cascade tumble down gracefully, forming brilliant jets of foam that glisten in the sunlight. The atmosphere is spellbinding, with the soothing murmur of the water mingling with the song of birds and cicadas and the gentle rustle of leaves in the wind. At the foot of the Dent de Rez, Saint Remèze is a small village close to the Ardèche gorges.
