Saint Thomé, a village full of character
Saint Thomé is a very pretty village of character in the Ardèche, renowned for its charm and historical significance.

This village sits on a rocky outcrop where three rivers meet. It majestically overlooks several hamlets in valleys carved out of limestone soil.
A Gallo-Roman history
Traces of settlements date back to Gallo-Roman times. But it was in the 6th century that the name of this village was first mentioned. From the 16th century onwards, its history became better known.
As the village grew, so did the agricultural land. The oldest of these are Les Crottes and L’Amandier. In the 19th century, thanks to the expansion of vineyards and silkworm cultivation, Saint-Thomé reached its peak population. The hamlet of Les Crottes, along the Viviers-Aubenas road, grew in importance. It was home to a number of shops and inns.
The old village remains the main town. The inhabitants built a new building to house the town hall and school. Deserted at the beginning of the 20th century, the village came back to life in the second half of the century. The new inhabitants included permanent residents and a few artists in love with the Ardèche.
