The old village

Chapias is a charming little village at the epicentre of Ruoms, Labeaume and Joyeuse et Rosière, typical of Ardèche villages, with its stone houses and narrow streets. Its charm lies in its peaceful atmosphere and unspoilt natural setting. Although small, this village offers an authentic atmosphere where visitors can discover the rural way of life in the Ardèche. The surrounding area also offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and exploring the region’s picturesque landscapes.

Chapias is also renowned for its cultural and historical heritage. The hamlet’s church, with its characteristic bell tower, is a place of meditation and discovery. Nearby, the remains of the old chapel bear witness to the religious and architectural history of the region. The area around Chapias is full of hiking trails, offering the chance to discover the local flora and fauna, as well as breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys of the Ardèche.

The Chapias tower

At the top of this 12-metre-high tower stands a Madonna and Child. It overlooks around twenty bell towers. The tower offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view over the arid plateau, from the Ardèche gorges to the Tanargue aboveAubenas, from the Monts Lozère to the Mézenc and the Mont Gerbier de Jonc.
