The old village

The village (population 1,500), with its cobbled streets and stone houses, invites you to take a leisurely stroll through time. The colourful stalls of local traders liven up the market square, lined with century-old plane trees.

Barjac Castle

This medieval castle, dating back to the 10th century, proudly dominates the town and offers panoramic views over the verdant surroundings. The listed fortress bears witness to the region’s turbulent history, with its imposing towers, sturdy ramparts and elegant vaulted rooms. Visitors can explore its many rooms, some of which house exhibitions on local history and regional crafts.

Festivals and cultural events

The village is renowned for its festivals and cultural events, which attract visitors from all over the world every year. The Festival de la chanson in Barjac is one of the region’s most famous events, offering top-quality concerts in an enchanting setting. The restored château, dating from the early 17th century, has become the hub of the village’s cultural life. It houses the town hall, cinema, library, activity rooms, exhibitions and performance venues.

The Barjac antiques and second-hand goods fair is famous for its exhibitors from all over Europe. It is held twice a year at Easter and in mid-August.
