A medieval village

Balazuc, a medieval village perched on the banks of the Ardèche, is a jewel of Ardèche architecture. Its cobbled streets wind between golden stone houses. They offer picturesque views over the valley and the medieval bridge over the river. The castle, dating back to the 11th century, proudly dominates the village, bearing witness to its eventful history. Visitors can explore its towers and ramparts, as well as its museum recounting local history.

The village square, lined with century-old plane trees, is alive with cafés and restaurants. It’s a great place to sample Ardèche specialities while admiring the scenery. The weekly market, typical of the region, offers an opportunity to discover local produce and regional crafts.

In short, Balazuc embodies the timeless charm of the medieval villages of the Ardèche, offering an authentic experience combining history, culture and nature in an enchanting setting.

Activities in Balazuc

The village is also an ideal base for exploring the Ardèche gorges and the many natural sites in the surrounding area. Outdoor activities such as canoeing, hiking and climbing are popular in the area.

In summer, the village comes alive with festivals and cultural events that enliven its streets. Art exhibitions, concerts and medieval shows attract visitors from all over the world. They add a touch of enchantment to Balazuc’s already enchanting atmosphere.

Le Viel Audon

Le Vieil Audon is a small hamlet nestling in the heart of the Ardèche mountains. It offers a peaceful, picturesque retreat for lovers of nature and tranquillity.

The much newer church dates from the 19th century. After visiting the village, take a dip in the river below, then visit the picturesque hamlet of Viel Audon. It is only accessible on foot via a footpath along the right bank of the Ardèche.
